Episode 5 | Tanisha, Sherley and Our Guests Deborah Forde, Executive Director of the Quebec Drama Federation. And the After 20 years in community development, Deborah’s work led her to the practice of professional community engaged arts, using studio and performance art as a tool for personal/professional development with young adults. Deborah’ directing credits include Vishesh Abeyratne’s Wake Butterfly.

We talk to Deborah about Black Mental Health Connections actively bringing together community leaders and organisations to support individuals and family members in the community, courageously meeting the challenges of Mental Illness.

Including DESTA Black Youth Network:

DESTA Black Youth Network is a non-profit community-based organization, catering to mental health challenges of at-risk and marginalized youth between 18 - 25 years old.

Youth experience difficulties accessing and navigating public health services as a result of language barriers, and negative encounters with health care professionals due to discrimination and cultural insensitivity.

In a welcoming and safe environment, DESTA provides caring, holistic and culturally sensitive services, to youth challenged with complex multifaceted mental health
issues ranging from stress, depression, anxiety; to more serve diagnosis, including addiction, trauma, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia while trying to cope with daily life stressors.

To also commemorate World Mental Health Day - 10 October and the second charity Rip The Runway MTL 2016 and the second charity Fashion For A Cause are supporting DESTA Black Youth Network is a non-profit community-based organization, catering to mental health challenges of at-risk and marginalized youth between 18 - 25 years old.
